Sequins Glossary: A Guide to Our Class Names and What They Actually Mean
An inside look at the meaning, imagination, and motivation behind every class name at Sequins Studio.
If you’ve ever scrolled through our schedule and paused at Duck Comfit or Stretch Limo in amused confusion, welcome. You’re not alone. One of the most frequent questions we receive at Sequins Studio, our boutique Pilates and movement space in Cabbagetown, Toronto, is simple: Where did these class names come from?
The short answer: each name carries a story. The long answer? Keep reading.
Each one carries a story. Some were sparked by misheard words, others by childhood nostalgia, or well-love meals. Whether you’re searching for a restorative yoga class in Toronto, a barre class that leaves space for levity, or Pilates that brings structure and personality into the room, this guide was made for you.
SEQUINS
Our namesake class. SEQUINS brings together Pilates, vintage aerobics, barre, and restorative movement. Each session builds purposefully, with moments of deep strength, and a crescendo that stirs the heart followed by restorative shapes to bring you back to yourself.
The name came by accident. I would often mispronounce "sequence" as "sequins," while teaching, and it shimmered enough to stick. This is the class to try if you're looking for a Pilates class in Toronto that offers a thoughtful blend of movement and expression.
Duck Comfit
Our most restorative class. Duck Comfit encourages the nervous system to soften through fascia release, supported mobility, and breath. The work here is subtle but deliberate, ideal for those recovering from injury, athletes seeking active recovery, or anyone looking to undo a week at the desk.
We know the spelling is off. "Comfit" is a twist on "confit," pronounced comfy (featured in Wordle on June 25, 2025). Comfy is our preferred state of being. The inspiration comes partly from my favourite dish, and partly from the kind of comfort that comes through slow restorative movement.
Stretch Limo
Our classic yoga class. Stretch Limo is straightforward, grounding, and deeply satisfying. We draw on traditional yoga postures with a tone that is both familiar and playful.
The name is pure 90s nostalgia. As a child, I spent entire recesses playing MASH and listing “stretch limo” under ‘car’, in my suburban view: the ultimate sign of success. I imagined pulling up to a Spice Girls concert in one, wearing a taffeta dress, sipping a root beer float, and locking eyes with Jonathan Taylor Thomas, who never responded to my fan mail. This class holds a trace of that fantasy. This class carries that same sense of imagined luxury, just a bit more grown-up. For anyone seeking yoga in Toronto with a sense of humour and a slower tempo, Stretch Limo waits at the curb.
Pilat-EASE
Beginner-friendly, breath-aware Pilates with a focus on fundamentals. Pilat-EASE is perfect for anyone just beginning or returning to movement. The pace is calm, the form is careful, and the entire experience is rooted in approachability helping to build your confidence and strength one rep at a time.
It’s a chance to learn or revisit the foundations in a space that allows you to feel both supported and curious. If you’re looking for beginner Pilates in Toronto or a class to restore your confidence in movement, Pilat-EASE will welcome you in.
Connect Core
A core-focused class that uses the Yoga Wall® to activate the body with precision and support. Connect Core focuses on four essential areas: arms, glutes, deep abdominals, and the back body. This is a movement that meets the core from all angles.
The name is a small tribute to Connect Four, a game I often played with my sister (also set in the 90s). This class, though, is far from plastic tokens and winning columns. It combines resistance, deep engagement, and expansive length. Think TRX with breath. Think reformer Pilates, but grounded. If you’re looking for core strength or Rope Wall Pilates in Toronto, this is your invitation.
Barre Call
Our barre-meets-Pilates class with subtle dance influence. The name came from a friend who is also a lawyer. Somewhere along a highway drive and a Webers burger, he offered “Barre Call” as a nod to being called to the bar.
We kept it. No robes required. No judgement handed down. This is a pulsating class that incorporates sly stabilizing muscles to build towards bigger burns. If you’re searching for barre classes in Cabbagetown or a barre-Pilates fusion in Toronto, this one will keep you lifted and present.
Got a Class Name Idea?
Every name at Sequins began with something simple. A phrase overheard. A memory. A flash of curiosity or a craving that wouldn’t go away. If you have a class concept you’d love to see on our schedule (and a name to match) we’re always listening. Bonus points if it’s clever, oddly beautiful, or just feels right in the body when you say it aloud.
We hope to see you in class soon.
Yours,
Mackenzie
